Remediation: Assignment Three

The final assignment of the Gateway course was 'Remediation' - we were instructed to remediate the piece we had repurposed by way of a new media form. Immediately students began buzzing with excitement of videos and blogs and interviews. I, myself, did not feel a moment of buzz.  I was plently passionate about my experience with what I had repurposed - my letter had been my favorite piece of work to date, but I was not interested in interviewing students, nor did I feel a blog would truly capture the essence of what I attempted to gather in my previous assignment.  It took many weeks, but a moment of positivity struck one day in class and I knew exactly how I wanted to remediate my letter - Music.

Music has the ability to change the mood of any person who allows it's lyrics and melodies to enter their mind and body. I knew this, too, would be true when it came to my letter. I decided to make a playlist on Spotify that collected the work of famous women from across the decades.  Women such as Aretha Franklin, Gloria Gaynor, Whitney Houston, Kelly Clarkson, and Beyonce have a place on this playlist because of their place in history.  Each song is meant to uplift the moods of the young women who listen to it and send them on their way, ready to face whatever may challenge them in the day to come. Music is one of the most powerful forces on this planet, and my 'Remediation' project utilizes that power to encourage confidence in every young woman in their freshman year of college.

Click on the 'play button' to begin listening to the playlist.  At anytime you can press the 'fast-forward' or 'rewind' buttons to explore the music of these influential women. Enjoy.

The making of...

As apart of the project, I recorded an introduction and conclusion to the playlist. I explained the purpose of the music as well as my goals for the assignment.
